Hi all- Some useful announcements: New Email subscription feature, as requested: you can now subscribe to class announcements so that they come directly to you via email. Please visit the class website homepage, it is just under the 'Announcements' title on the right. (As you will see I am using a 3rd party service which is fairly reliable and has good privacy policies, but because I am not paying for it, it does contain an advertisement with every email. You will notice that ads is a popular part of the business model of most internet services). Let me know if the service does NOT work for you (I've tested it as much as I can, much to the annoyance of those of you who are already subscribed, I suspect, sorry). Readings for Monday are up- in addition to ICT and Education (which we didn't have time to talk about Wednesday), we will explore e-Health. On Wednesday, we will have a guest speaker, as a response to your suggestions in the mid-term eval, the Executive Director of Inveneo (http://www.inveneo.org/), an NGO focussing on infrastructure in ICTD. In return, please do attend class, be familiar with the organization, come with questions, and if possible, even bring a guest! (As you know, these invitations do take effort on everyone's part!) :) There are no class videos for last week because we spent Monday on projects, and Wednesday with a guest speaker/and then the mid term evaluation. Blog posts this week are up- please comment at least once in total (ie one comment on one post is ok). In addition to your own learning about the topics and blog culture, it is also a way to support your fellow classmates. Moreover, I would like to remind you that a part of the requirement for class participation requires you to do so, and that will feed into your 20% class participation grade. Please refer to our class website if you need to be reminded of the details. Regarding posting blog posts, it is of course your responsibility to know when you have signed up, and to submit your posts to me before class on Monday. I will not be sending reminders in future. Late submissions without permission or reasons will be subjected to the usual UCB policies. Mid-term evaluation results, which I shared with you in the last class, can be accessed here http://i190spring2014.sanng.com/about/mid-term-course-evaluation , for more comments if you have any, and my (written) responses to your suggestions. I am also gathering feedback from my faculty colleagues and will let you know if there are any significant changes. Project proposals - please start working on your projects if and when you can, and document time. For my teams, I will be getting in touch with you soon. For others, please let me know if you need more advice outside of class. Have a good weekend! |
